Day 1: Ostfriesland per bicycle with the Schremmers

For the next 7 days we will be travelling by bicycle and bicycle only. Aunt Petra, Oma Elke, Opa Siegfried, Great-Uncle Heinz, Mum, Niklas and me are cycling from Leer to Dangast, along the North Sea in Northern Germany, a total of 270 km.

Aunt Petra has got a camper van in Dangast which serves as our "base camp" to start and end our trip. She also managed all the logistics of organising bicycles for everyone as well as pack bags and sleeping all seven of us in her camper and a tent.

On Day one of the big bicycle trip we start in Dangast, cycle to Varel, take the train to Leer and cycle to Emden. After a total of 44 km I have to admit that I am tired, but also proud of my achievement.

clockwise: great uncle Heinz, aunt Petra, Mum, Opa Siegfried, Oma Elke, Niklas, me - all ready to push off for the trip!
This is what a lunch break looks like: We need lots of parking space for loaded bicycles.
In Emden: ducking under some cycling barriers
Bicycle road signs everywhere
Never heard of Twixlum? I cycled through it - they've got a windmill!
